Think Tank Legacy:

Rebuilding Cultural Ties for a Brighter Future

What is Think Tank Legacy?

Established in 2012, Think Tank Legacy is the nonprofit arm of Bobo Enterprises, dedicated to reestablishing cultural connections in urban communities by teaching Black history beyond slavery. Through art initiatives, financial literacy programs, and cultural education, we empower individuals to embrace their heritage and build a stronger future.

Our signature programs include:

  • Black History Forever Curriculum – A deep dive into pre-colonial African history and its lasting impact.

  • Checkmate Chess Program – Teaching strategy, discipline, and leadership through the game of chess.

  • Sirius Cyphers Youth Open Mic – A creative space for young voices to express themselves through spoken word and music.

Each year, we host our Annual Black Tie Affair, a fundraiser honoring community leaders who work tirelessly to keep Black history alive.

Our logo reflects our mission—featuring the Adinkra symbol “Ese Ne Tekrema,” representing improvement, advancement, and interdependence. Like the teeth and tongue, we must work together, balancing unity and individuality, to amplify our voices and strengthen our communities.

At Think Tank Legacy, we believe that understanding our past is the key to shaping a powerful future.

TTL History

2012-2017

The Early Years

Think Tank Foundation was established by Darnell Bobo. The creation of the non for profit was to help teach Black History to urban youth before slavery. The program was taught in schools in Chicago including Julian, Throop, Key, Douglass, and Austin.

2017-2020

Ramping up

Think Tank expands it's programs to the south suburbs with Think Tank for Boys programing in south suburban high schools, led by board member, Frank Johnson. The expansion of the programing allows Think Tank to take it's mission beyond the city limits.

2020-Present

Rebranding

The global pandemic along with changes in access to schools changed Think Tank's scope of service providing, thus the birth of Bobo Emporium, a central location for Think Tank, along with it's parent company, Bobo Enterprises, to run operations. This expansion, new logo, and new branding, lead to growth and the new Think Tank Legacy of today!
